Given the huge popularity of DZone, one may wonder about the impact of having your site/blog appearing there. In this post I discuss about the short-term and mid-term impact of being linked in DZone based on my one-time experience

I see pretty much the exact same thing on my blog, even if people really like the article. Usage drops back down.

But I'm the same way--a minute fraction of a percentage of the articles I read end up added to my RSS feed. And it's not that the pieces suck or something; it's just the nature of how I read the web, which is mostly through RSS feeds of aggregation sites.

That is, probably 99% of the RSS I see is from the 4 aggregation sites, and 1% is from the other 20 blog feeds I have.

I'd guess for every 1000 people that read the blog, maybe 1 of them permalinks it.

I guess I'm not at all surprised. I only add a site to my feed if I it shows up here and I like 4-5 in a row. Then I'll subscribe and see how the full pipe is.

Another problematic issue is that when posting your content to an aggregation site, the discussion about your post (like the one we are having here) takes place in that site and not in yours.
