In the late 90′s, global warming fears prompted a focus on reducing carbon dioxide emissions by saving energy. For the past fifteen years environmental concerns have mainly been associated with the burning of fossil fuels, and most of the blame has been firmly placed upon cars and power stations. Relatively speaking, little effort has really been made to tackle the problem of energy efficiency within the IT industry.
