Copyright protects open source projects just as it does Microsoft. But for the benefits of open source to grow, perhaps some adjustments are in order.

To complement the story:

Just think of a world where a piano is under a copyright, long story short: tools shouldn't be copyrightable and software in essence is a tool. Also think of your favorite classical music under a copyright law, maybe we wouldn't have as many public orchestras as we have now, think about it.

Open source is not a threat but a remedy to a problem that is killing progress and innovation.

Copyrights promote monopoly.

In the other hand, honor and recognition should not be taken away from those who write superb open source software, for instance Firefox.or azureus.
