Adam Pisoni from Yammer describes traditional enterprise software as being forced to eat soup with a fork when you know very well there are spoons are out there somewhere. He says, consumerization is forcing IT to give out spoons.

So basically it's give them what they want, not what they need. Hmm.

ohyea,
To continue the metaphor, it is about giving them what they need; a spoon. Traditional enterprise software is not usually about giving people what they need in my experience. There are a whole host of reasons for installing it, but the end user is not typically the one who is at the forefront of these decisions. There is a place here where IT and users can find common ground and the business wins.
