OK, I am not starting yet another war between .NET vs J2EE. I need your input.
I was introduced to CTO of a major company last week. He was inquiring about what I do. I told him I am a Software Engineer, and do a lot of development on Java/J2EE. Next thing I hear from him is "Meera, all the major development shops I know, and also my company are moving to .NET. You should also do so soon.".

I'm not sure whether to vote this up or down. The article and comments seem to indicate this is a silly dichotomy, which I agree, but some may take an up-vote as tacit support for the premise that major shops are moving to .Net.

The article is engaging. IMHO, it's not likely that a .Net shop or Microsoft will use dzone as a marketing tactic, but you never know.

I never added this article to be a tactic to move to either technology. I need a sincere feedback from the community which I am so involved with. I am getting sincere opinions and comments from readers. This is all I was hoping to get.

I would have been in the "what a silly idea" camp even 6 months ago, right up to the point where the company I work for, and several others I'm aware of in my area, started trying to replace old Java portal solutions with....of all things....Sharepoint. Dozens of JSR-168 portlets flying around, 10s of thousands of lines of Java, and they buy Sharepoint. It boggles the mind.

A recent forrester research report suggests that .NET has caught up (very slightly) with JEE, but is still far behind:

J2EE only: 40%
.NET only: 7%
a combination: 40%
