Yes. Unfortunately, those beasts from the past still haunt us, more than ever when we’re using Java 8′s lambda expressions. Already before Java 8′s release, there are a couple of Stack Overflow questions related to the subject.

Checked exceptions and their requirement to "handle immediately", were always incompatible with functional programming & best-practice "catch late" exception-handling. Java 8 is quite clear in excluding them from the new FP features. The world is moving on.. http://literatejava.com/uncategorized/checked-exceptions-javas-biggest-mistake/
