Just cause it is everywhere doesn't mean that I can't hate it.

Cumbersome, verbose, inelegant, bloated.

I can see why it took off where it has...it is perfect for large corporations.

I would have to argue that it has the largest open source contribution ratio to any other language. This is why Java is so popular, there is a vast set of resources on which to build your application. Sometimes, it's tougher figuring out what your web-stack is going to be than actually programming the webapp itself.
