It has definitely ticked me off, what's so wrong with j2ee technologies, to run a even simple website. Everyone knows that JSP is far superior technology than PHP. So why j2ee evangelist, who live, eat, blog, earn using jsp, BUT not build their product site using JSP?

Nice article, just one more example: Liferay described here as java-based CMS. Their site (www.liferay.com) built with own liferay - it is nice. But Wiki - http://wiki.liferay.com/index.php/Main_Page again PHP (even liferay has Wiki portlet)...

That was just dumb. Use the best tool for the job. If putting up a website with php does what you want/need and saves you a lot of hours, that's what you should do. I don't care if a website use jsp/asp to promote php or anything like that.

No, its not dumb sir, the message I think he is trying to pass is "Dont Use Your Competitors Tools, by that, you will contribute to his bottom-line and increase his counter against yours". Even if asp.net is a great technology, I doubt Google will ever use a microsoft product for a major service they provide or neither will you see Microsoft using GWT for instance for a major service they will provide as well.

Priorities. When they have time in the future, they might change over, most likely they just wanted to be safe and certain that the website would not take up too much off their time, and then three months down the line they thought "why change it if its not broken?".

Easy to make excuses why not to do it. I remember back in the beginning when MS had some CGI/perl apache sites, some acquired of course, and I so clearly remember that flack that they got for not using ASP & IIS from the Java community. Java guys would say things like, see MS doesn't believe in their own technology. Well times have changed and now it's our community that needs to put up or shut up. I for one KNOW that Java on the server is one of the best technologies out there, maybe not in the form of Java EE, but never-the-less, has such a rich platform. Scripting languages, LDAP support, OSGi and so much more at our finger tips. Don't make excuses, if you build Java web technology, freaken use some Java on the server to talk about it at least, even if not the actually product. Don't push people out of the plane if your not willing to follow, thats called wimping out! .... would have used harsher words but know this is a family show :P
