This is an example of how Java people envisioned Enterprise development 5 years age: XML 'glue' all over the place a la Spring. We know better now!

Yes, sadly enough we don't know any better way for making a workflow possible. What are the alternatives outside the java world?

XML ?? Excuse me ?? JBPM(Version 3 had an eclipse plugin and version 4 an eclipse plugin and even a web based flow editor) doesnt require you to edit the xml process definitions by hand ! Before spouting comments i suggest you actually dive into a subject before you post ;-)
