I made multiple attempts at learning R but without having a real need for the tool I never really got used to it. Recently I choose R instead of Excel to complete a free online course on statistics and it helped me get a good understanding of the tool.

R does my head in at the moment... The documentation assumes a lot of prior knowledge, and the error messages you get as you venture into object orientation have little or no relevance to the actual bug you've got...

There's a book coming out soon (I believe) which goes at R from a developer standpoint, which is what we really need... Currently, all the book assume you come from a statistical background and jump from the absolute basics to performing statistical analysis in a single page...
