One of the great things about Maven is that it provides a well defined project metadata. This include obvious things like project description, license, list of project committers and contributors, links to the mailing lists and issue tracking and version control systems. Most of Maven users probably know about that only from the standard web sites generated by Maven plugins based on that information, but Maven metadata has many other great uses.
