In late 2004 Jamie Cansdale released a free addin called TestDriven.NET for visual studio .NET that would let developers easily run unit tests from within visual studio. It is one of the best known Addins for VS to date. His only mistake was to enable installing this addin on all versions of visual studio, including the (free)express edition, which officially does not even support addins. He was even awarded MVP Status by Microsoft due to his community efforts with this addin. Then microsoft realized that he's not playing by "the rules" because the express edition, which was free, is not supposed to have addins.
