This is not MS's first try at unseating Adobe's Flash format... Unfortunately Flash isn't broken, has an install base of at least 90% of all computers, is cross platform (eventually it'll even play on the Nintendo Wii), and it is an open document spec...
As a developer I just don't see why we should even be excited for something unproven (and probably buggy - given MS's history)

I would completely agree with you. And I think it's the point of the article even to say that microsoft doesn't need to dilute itself to get involved in this type of development app.
