It seems that dark clouds are gathering around of the future of mySQL since its acquisition by Oracle. In an uncertain atmosphere in which Ex-MySQL leaders take opposite stances in EU-vs.-Oracle discussion (see here) – and a broader overview here, Oracle wipes out without no explanation the downloads for mySQL 6 silently canceling the public beta of the yet-to-be-released database and most probably (?) stalling also the development…

This guy is a moron. mySQL is not disappearing. They're setting up a new release cycle, that's all. Read the comments of the blog for more information.

This guy needs to read documentation.

Although it's just a new road map and the removal of MySQL 6 has been clarified and Oracle stated that they are not going to stop development on MySQL, this article is still quite interesting to read. As he says: "Boy, I don’t like how this smells…" Conclusion: Support more than just one database in your database layer (well, it's not really new considering the last few years with MySQL).

However, I cannot confirm the strange Google Ads - anyone seeing something like that? How did it get there?

Update: Sorry, had a content filter active. There really are Google Ads on the MySQL Homepage... :/

Just read the first sentence; the entire premise is flawed. Oracle hasn't acquired MySQL or Sun.
