Oracle is like any disrupted company. It's forced to choose between innovative newer database solutions, where competitors have already established cost-effective cloud and open source alternatives and its more lucrative (but shrinking hardware business). It's a tough situation, and probably requires a CEO who is more concerned about his business than his racing team.

So on the website of Parelastic, a competitor of Oracle, the CEO of Parelastic believes that Oracle sucks, and is struggling to be relevant. Well, I for one I'm not surprised. Doesn't mention that even Google, has MySql/MariaDB - good ol' relational DB offered now also for the AppEngine cloud, also RedHat has PostgreSQL offered in their OpenShift cloud. And if I understand correctly Oracle has the technology for both the cloud, and the DB in the cloud - multiple flavours of it even (mysql, oracle, the inmem thingie), from the hardware itself ending with the full software stack. Some people might deceive themselves it's a good option. But it's not Parelastic good. I get it.

Google is actually switching from MySQL to MariaDB, which we wrote about last week: http://parelastic.com/blog/google-dumps-oracle-mysql-and-runs-arms-mariadb

Yes, you said, the Google has MySQL, but it's actually in the process of moving all the MySQL databases to MariaDB.

I actually wrote in, if I read correctly: "Doesn't mention that even Google, has MySql/MariaDB - good ol' relational DB"

If you read the article it's not about whether one database is better than another. It's about the power of disruption in any industry and Oracle is faced with serious pressure from lower cost open source and cloud alternatives. That's not tooting ParElastic's horn, even though it appeared on their company blog, it's stating a fact about how disruption can upend established players like Oracle.
