"The Play framework revolutionized the Java Web application development...". Really? Play is a copy of Grails written in Java. Grails is a copy of Ruby on Rails written in Groovy. Ruby on Rails is a copy of Struts (with significant improvements) written in Ruby. Play is a copy of a copy. How is that revolutionary? Is there any objective evidence, from unbiased sources, showing that Play webapps are faster to create or easier to maintain than in other popular web frameworks (Spring MVC, RoR, Grails, Stripes, Wicket, JSF, GWT, Vaadin, etc)? If so, I'd love to see them. Until then, I wish the Play community would tone down the grandiose claims. The self-serving marketing hype is not helping their cause.

Play uses a completely different approach to request processing. I don't know Rails, but I can assure you that it's not in the same league as Struts, Grails, or the entire JEE stack: in fact, it works on completely different hypotesis: e.g., one thread per request (JEE) vs. async request processing and Futures (Play). Play 2 is even more radical in this direction. Every community flaunts its successes and brags about it. And Play has some successes under its belt to brag about.
