Someone has gone through a huge effort to chart out the popular languages. The popularity is measured using various aspects, looking at job postings, number of programming books, most discussed. For the search results the top 3 ranks are: 1. C 2. Java 3. PHP The top 3 ranks from the discussion sites are: 1. C 2. Java 3. Python Some observations from this.

Too many of the data sources are extremely biased. Lambda the Ultimate is an extremely obscure academic site primarily about Haskell. Reddit is a news site primarily about Lisp...

Well, there are other problems, but the information is still awfully interesting.
