I have a lot of sympathy for language snobs because I used to be one. It's a very understandable conceit; it's so easy to overestimate the importance of programming languages because 'lines of code' are easily the most visible and quantitative output of software development. Even today, in the late great year of 2007, we see people eagerly trotting out the old LOC fallacy without once stopping to consider that perhaps placing too much emphasis on how little code is just as dangerous as placing too much emphasis on how much code.
