Python is also used almost everywhere in Pardus, from startup system to user interfaces. This wasn't intentional. We started using Python in a few places for rapid development, however while most of the core developers learned Python after joining the project, the use of Python spread almost every areas of Pardus development.

It might not be readily apparent what Pardus is (I'm a Linux user and didn't know) but Pardus is a Linux distribution. It might be interesting to note that Redhat also does most of their system utilities in Python. Unfortunately if you use RHEL 4.x, you are relegated to a fairly old Python 2.3 and upgrading it is a major pain.
