"Technical debt" in modern business
Software--even, or especially, from the largest and most demanding organizations--is often error-ridden. As painful as such faults are to engineers, it appears top decision-makers judge current quality "good enough": they keep moving the business beyond its IT basis, that is, incurring "technical debt".
