Yep, good point Motion Control especially if you are doing commercial work and using their external server database (not the one included). However, the personal/educational one is offered at a pretty reasonable price. I admittedly may have never even gotten into it if it weren't for the trial edition they offer, which I liked in just a few minutes. Using mostly Open Source products over the past 6 years this is one of the few products I have actually found myself purchasing (other than some web graphic software). Though I try to donate time or money to some of the Open Source products that we use to keep them going.
VB 6 also was expensive, The people who would like to continue to work the traditional VB way RealBasic is the way and it is multiplatform, it supports Windows, Linux and Mac with native Look and Feel, Databases, Graphics etc. It is great product.
I lately Im doing a lot with wxPython, qtHaskell and JavaFX for desktop apps but not anymore Basic language.
Hello OtengiM, I am also finding alot of my new code being easier to do in Python, even some of the stuff I use to do in Perl (which I still do have a bias for). The only GUI stuff I have done in Python was using the "defacto" TKinter, do you recommend wxPython over this? I might give it a try.
I also agree that the cost is a non-starter. The personal edition should just be free. Languages are too great an investment in time and energy to risk. To charge even $100 is a hurdle that most won't bother jumping over, especially for a language that is so fragmented as BASIC. If it was free, I might spend the time to play with it.
In addition, notice the annual "renewal" costs... 50% of the cost ($250) per year to renew? Ouch.
