Modern JVM languages are great. They're moving the perception of "Java" from a language with a cryptic and constraining syntax, to that of a platform supporting dozens of powerful languages inheriting the strength and portability of a well tested virtual machine. Through efforts like Scala, JRuby and Groovy, the JVM is beginning to draw even (and even pull ahead) with the CLR/DLR in the hearts of compiler writers everywhere.
