It has been a good run, but Ajax the buzzword will dip below the radar in 2009. That's not to say that we'll all stop writing JavaScript and using XHR in the coming year -- quite the contrary. Full 100% of web applications will incorporate Ajax technologies, we just will use the "Ajax" buzzword less and less, much as "HTML" became just another acronymic noun in the early days of the web. So that's not really controversial.

This is just speculation and one man opinion but Im not agree, I think Ajax it will get more powerful and better next years. Silverlight, JavaFX, Flash are good for fancy graphics and animations but corporate/enterprise software does not need to be so fancy GUI, The important there is the server side and logic with a decent and not so complex GUI. That is why the WEB won to the client/server long time ago, I dont think client/server will comeback. Sorry folks let move on.

I think we will see more JS+SVG+AJAX/COMET come down the line. If an editor that say has the look and feel of Adobe's stuff, I think flash will be given a run for it's money. Also with browser plugins from Yahoo and others that extend the Javascript engine to do more than ever...
