A popular recent weblog entry introduced acts_as_ferret to many Ruby users as an option for adding search to an app. But acts_as_solr might be a better option and in this entry I explain how it is different and why you might prefer it to the Ferret based solution.

I agree that Solr is a really good option for rails developers, even though it's written in java. I posted a bit about our usage of Solr for tourb.us here: http://blog.tourb.us/archives/searching-with-solr/
