After reading an essay by Bruce Eckel about how great Adobe Apollo was going to be, I had high hopes for the product. But after reviewing the alpha release, those hopes were quickly dashed.

Well, given that Bruce now has a fat paycheck from Adobe, I wouldn't trust him on anything that's either an Adobe product or a competitor to one of their products...

I agree. If you read Bruce Tate's "Beyond Java" post closely in which he touts Adobe Flex...you would see his disclaimer saying "oh, btw...I'm beign hired out by Adobe."

In my opinion, what he did is no different than M$FT hiring him out to write and promote the same thing. He's about as trustworthy as a bribed politician as far as I'm concerned

Umm, the article is about Bruce Eckel, not Bruce Tate! (Cue: Monty Python Aussie sketch)

you are confusing 2 Bruces. Bruce Tate is proclaiming that Ruby is heaven and Java is dead in his book "Beyond Java" (and other books), Bruce Eckel is doing much the same except his new baby is Flex.

I'm talking about Bruce Eckel... He's not "thinking in Flex" and openly proclaiming whereever he goes that Java is useless for user interface development...
