I woke up this morning and checked TechMeme to see what was happening in the tech world. Three stories jumped out at me. Amazon was down due to a Denial of Service attack. Twitter has been down many times over the past few weeks. Dave Winer says he needs a Plan B for Twitter. Disqus, the blog commenting service, has also been down several times recently.

aws wasn't down, just amazon.com...and yes, i still want my data in the cloud. last place i worked we went from AT&T's data center to building our own data center, and at neither place did we achieve the uptime of amazon.com even with the recent DDOS. No matter how brilliant of a network engineer you think you have you're not going to survive an attack that Amazon doesn't unless you've spent a whole lot of money on it, trust me.

Let me get this correct, a rant about how the web is fragile. How sometimes things don't go right in the cloud. Did I get that right? But at the end of the day, you posted your article, where?, oh in the cloud so many can read it....hmmmm i know there is irony somewhere in that.
Yes life is tough in the cloud so thanks captain obvious for telling all us developers about how things aren't perfect on the web. Why do you think we are still getting jobs and making money building stuff for this moving target called the web? If it was perfect we wouldn't have to rant and rave about how X is better then Y, we would all be building houses.
Also articles that end with no real value but just say, "things will get better", beg to ask what was the purpose of saying anything then.

My data is not safe on computers at all, that's why I still use punch cards.
