Aptana (yes, this is a shameless plug) released version 1.0 of its PHP support yesterday, and it is something that you should definitely check out. Prior to working at Aptana, I was an avid user of Zend Studio, and Coda, simply because those were the best PHP IDEs as far as I was concerned. Over the past few months, however, we’ve been hard at work on the PHP support for Aptana Studio, and I can say with much confidence that it is in every way as good as every other PHP IDE out there, and better than some in other respects. I would also say this regardless of the fact that I work for the company… it really is that good! Read on to find out about all the new goodness…

I tried to use Aptana, but found it too slow to use. I've been using NetBeans since beta 6.5 for PHP projects and WordPad++ for single files.

I tried Aptana after reading this post; and have to agree with EllisGL. It is slow; even slower than Zend Studio for Eclipse and (at least for me) did not have the PHP tools installed by default - which meant battling the Eclipse installer which (and lets be honest here) is rubbish. Not exactly a great start what with the main download being 130+MB and then needing another 30 or so MB for the additional tools (still smaller than ZDE which is heavy at 300+). With that said, it does have a debugger which is one over on NetBeans and covers most of the main JavaScript libraries. For now I am still sticking with Zend Studio for Eclipse as that is where my hard earned cash has (already) gone.

I also agree with ellisGL.
The reasons are discussed in the article http://dreamxtream.wordpress.com/2008/11/23/web-development-ide/
