For some reason, there are some people who write web sites with PHP, but put the ".aspx" extension at the end of their files. WHY???

Is this some kind of a joke, or just a pro Microsoft post? Come on, no one is doing that.

Come on, you can't take this comment seriously:

"I setup all my systems to use any of the major file extensions, for instance a php page with a .cfm extension, or a jsp page with a .aspx extension! But all this depends on the client's preferences."

Cool URIs don't change.

It's certainly possible that some sites moved to some new tech and decided to keep all inbound links intact.

The obvious choice would be a permanently moved redirect to a new URL which doesn't expose anything of the underlying technology.
