Maybe, just maybe, those practices are not as good as you think. Just mercilessly over-hyped?

Yes, I think, sometimes they are over-hyped and they are only as good as how well you can use them. But they do work in the right context.

All these practices are taught as dogma, not questionable by the unwashed masses.
Time will render "methodologies de jour" like scrum and kanban irrelevant. But with any luck there will be some useful principles that remain.
