After (quite) a few unsuccessful attempts, I finally succeeded at following the 8 steps in Jesse Norell's well written tutorial on creating 3D buttons using GIMP. When I tried to emulate the same steps using JavaFX, I was surprised by how easy it was to do. Here's what I did to create my first 3D button using JavaFX!

Kirill, You're spot on. Why oh why can't developers stay away from making "cool" stuff? I could do this on my Amiga, not 1995, but 1985!! (and this with 60 fps, vertically synced perfectly animated. And no, not in machine code, but in 'Simon's Basic' or 'True Basic').
They (whoever THEY are..) should have added a clause in the license for JavaFX: "You must not post things that look like when your 12 year old baby girl put on makeup for he first time..". :)
Where are the COOL stuff ???

kirill, mikael, can't agree more ;)
it seems like the people in the enterprise already realized that adding layers does not help to solve a problem. I am curious how long it will take until they notice that the rules for the desktop are not different.

I'm so tired of these kinds of JavaFX examples. Such a waste of time.

Instead of these little toy (and sometimes ugly and useless) examples, we need *real-world applications*.
