if Net Applications’ numbers are somewhat correct, then it is clear that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) will end 2008 with a historic market share loss in a software segment Microsoft believed was key to its future business in the late 1990s.

2. Create a simple plug-in architecture for IE similar to Firefox.
3. Dump active x control support aka SECURE IE
4. Dump Browser Helper objects aka SECURE IE
5. If you must keep active x or Browser helper objects make 'em run in a VM aka SECURE IE

Action item for MS in 2009:
1) Dump IE
2) Adopt Webkit
3) Contract out to have a new browser built around that (keep existing MS developers off that project)
