this is why I dislike linux....you need a tutorial to guide you step by step just install a piece of software.In windows,all you have to do is download exe file,execute it and it just works.

ok? so only cause someone wrote a tutorial for such a simple task like installing the jre you think windows is superior to linux? great, then i will go back to windows, need to download ff (maybe already done), search for the sun-site, download the jre, tell windows that it is safe to execute the installer and everything is fine. Great!

I guess you've never tried Ubuntu Linux. It's actually easier than Windows. In Ubuntu Linux, you don't need to visit any web sites to install JRE nor do you have to download anything by yourself. What you need to do is open the 'Ubuntu Software Centre' from the menu, type 'java' on the search field then double click the 'Sun Java 6 Runtime' and press the 'Install' button. That's it. It will automatically download and install JRE for you.

FYI, these kinds of cool features are available in Linuxes for years. :)

If you try, you will find it's very easy to use. I've been using Ubuntu Linux for less than two years but I used MS products from DOS 1.0 to Windows XP for about twenty plus years. My reason to change it to Ubuntu Linux was that it is easy to use and more stable & secure than Windows. However, I have to admit that it wasn't that easy before, I tried several times before but failed as it was hard to install software as you mentioned. Now, it's different. It's very easy.

Actually there's a lot of things in Ubuntu that dont work out of the box. Don't get me wrong, I love Ubuntu but you still have to install the standard stuff. In Mint (which is built off Ubuntu) it has all that done for you. Only problem is they're often a few months behind the Ubuntu releases. That and they replaced the menu with a goofy XP like menu.
