IzPack is a one-stop solution for packaging, distributing and deploying applications. It is fully cross-platform and generates a single installer. This new version brings new features such as Pack200 compression support or better user-defined conditions.

IzPack is a nice project, and I use it for non-Windows installs (NSI is better for windows, and both installer builders are simple enough to script that supporting multiple installers isn't hard); one huge downside for me is that since version IzPack 4.0, the installer will crash unless your user has Java 1.5 or higher installed. They don't seem to have this info posted in any FAQ, etc. on their site... the only reference AFAIK is here in the bug database:
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/IZPACK-12
...where the "bug" was that it's easier for their developers if they drop support for 1.4, since most developers had 1.5 or 1.6 installed. Well, yeah. And so they also assume our users are all developers? Ugh.
They just say the installer requires "only a Java virtual machine to run" -- that's misleading, particularly if you have a wide and diverse userbase.
My (Java-based) software that I use it for supports Java 1.3+... so when I upgraded to IzPack 4 when it was released, I had some upset users (particularly on some older Apples with no simple path to upgrade Java) and had to revert back to IzPack 3.8 in a hurry. Fortunately, 3.8 is solid enough for what I need it to do....
