I don't think Oracle suing Google over the use of Java in Android has much to do with Android at all. I think it has everything to do with Oracle monetizing Java anyway it can. That spells big trouble for any company or developer who uses Java but hasn't obeyed the letter of Java's intellectual property laws. I'm looking at you, Red Hat/JBoss; Apache/Jakarta; and members of the JCP (Java Community Process). Get ready. Legal trouble is coming your way.

Why are you happy? Even if you are a .net programmer, death of Java would mean that Microsoft would have no competition in the area of software platforms. No competition means low quality an high prices.

Sorry, DZone reformatted my comment. Posting again:

"Finally Java will die, hip hip hurrrray"
"i am a Scala and AspectJ suporter"

Both are JVM languages, what's more, AspectJ is an extension (superset) of Java (just like C# 4.0 is an extension of C# 3.0). AspectJ adds nothing special except AOP - it's a very tiny extension of Java. AOP is minority of code passed to AspectJ compiler. 95% of the code for AspectJ compiler will be 'normal' Java code. This leads to contradiction - how can you like and don't like Java at the same time?

It's not the first time I see you spreading shit on Java at DZone.
Just some other examples of bullshit by RawThinkThank:
- "Dalvik is 10 times faster than JVM" - impossible as Sun JVM has similar speed as native code - many bencharks have shown it; I only guess that Dalvik starts faster than Sun JVM
- "JAVA in 1993 screwed up us all real bad by not using GTK" - as someone replied, GTK didn't exist then
- "JPA or Hibernate ?
Get a life man, there are no standards there, we are left chasing technology instead of being productive." - as in the answer: JPA is the well established standard (much older than Entity Framework which appeared very recently in.net), and Hibernate it's probably the commonest implementation of it
- "Until GWT dont create an IDE so that we can seamlessly write server side code on GWT events , GWT will be limited to scripters and scripters are not programmers" - ???
- "If you got some brains , you will get the point and will also know how dumbos most humans are." - no comment
- "i am happy that there are 10 people who voted this down, there is a lot of hope for humankind yet." - no comment
- ...

If you don't know something, shut up!

About this isue of Google for example Dalvik is based on Java SE, Android is an OS for PC, netbook, Laptop or smartphone. Everything is based on OpenJDK so Java is GPL with the classpath exception, Why Google needs a license with Oracle?, Cause dalvik is based on Harmony? but I think Dalvik already using OpenJDK stuff so it complains to the GPL plus dalvik is open source you can get a copy of the source. Also I was reading somewhere that Oracle patents Google is infringing cant be applied anymore so it means all this thing is bullshit and Oracle did an auto FUD to their own platform as some people said they shoot their self in the foot. This is dumbest thing Oracle ever did or any company, Even Microsoft is not that stupid, Oracle does not have a case and Java is FREE is GPLed. Oracle does not have the capacity to control Java and Java the ecosystem and also they suck big time driving opensource. It was a joke Oracle was at the last Linux show they dont know the spirit of opensource, they just know to make money but not with innovation they just buy other companies and cash cow everything. Like a Virus.

The problem is that Sun's grant for the patents in Java is only for 'pure' Java implementations. If you change the code, which Google certainly did with Dalvik, you no longer have a free pass on the patents. Sun didn't see this as a big deal. As Gosling said, Sun wasn't in the patent lawsuit business. Oracle takes an entirely different view.

Damn it.
