PayPal officially opened up their PayPal X platform with the release of the first suite of APIs known as Adaptive Payment APIs.

This is actually pretty cool, the chained payments will be handy and the streamline account sign up process might increase conversion rates.

Agreed its a good move by PayPal and should lead to some innovative applications being developed.
