Zed may have some valid points, but the way he goes about it in his blog entry (so unprofessional, especially with heavy use of profanity), I would have to say he has a real credibility problem in my opinion.

By seeing his about page I would say it's his style, and I like it. He's humorous and honest, and he's got nothing to prove so why bother with corporate bullshit ?

He is WAY below the level of adhering to any 'corporate bullshit'. Kids playing in a sandbox work together better than this.

His post is a torpedo into rails community attempt to build respectability and credibility in the minds of corporate decision makers. If corporate decision makers view Zed or his post as representative of rails community members, then this rant is a setback for people who want to make big money with rails.

'Rails is Ghetto' purposely transfers the attributes of a degenerate rap culture to the rails community. What career preserving decision maker is going to pull THAT into their shop?

Justified or not, I doubt that posting that rant will do much for this guy's consulting business. I think a lot of potential employers would just steer clear of him, lest they be the next one he's badmouthing on his blog.

This is amazing. Zed Shaw is still a pretty respected guy in the Rails community. Hell, about 99% of us depend on mongrel every single day for our jobs. As harsh as he is, we're gonna need to make right with this guy.

I'm really sorry for this guy if he went through so much pain in his career.

At the very least this was an entertaining read.

The whole rant is pretty over the top but he does bring up some good points on the sad state of the industry.
The quote about the number restarts per min was hard to believe. "DHH: before fastthread we had ~400 restarts/day"

Fun read. Honest stuff, maybe a bit harsh at times, but it seems this tone would fit right into the rails-community.
