"It’s been clear for some time that the most recent JDK 7 development schedule is, to put it mildly, unrealistic."
So:
"Plan A: JDK 7 (as currently defined) Mid 2012
Plan B: JDK 7 (minus Lambda, Jigsaw, and part of Coin) Mid 2011
JDK 8 (Lambda, Jigsaw, the rest of Coin, ++) Late 2012"

To paraphrase LOTR: Scala is back on the menu, boys!

Does Scala come with NIO 2? What about new date/time API? Sure Scala is fine but only solves a subset of the problems we were hoping JDK 7 would solve.

JDK 6 is now almost 5 years old. To wait 8-10 years between releases in this day and age is beyond ridiculous. Alternatives are needed (such as Scala) as this is just not acceptable.
