"Every application grows until it can send email" is an old maxim, and a threshold that Java passed many years ago, when the JavaMail API appeared. How, then, to explain the appearance of the Apache Commons Email library? This month I'm going to take you through sending mail with both APIs.

I for one always did wonder why it was so hard to send a mail in Java, needing (first at least) javaee.jar and lately just javamail.jar. For something so basic and RFC based (smtp, mime, base64) which should obviously be in the core library.
