I’m going to explain in detail why ditching private is bad. Obviously this needs to be spelled out, because a lot of programmers- including Steve Yegge – don’t get it.

Fine, you don't agree with Steve's opinion. Your knee-jerk response is insults? Who are you to call anyone immature or childish?

As an aside, while I disagree entirely with Steve's opinion, his presentation of it was absolutely hilarious. I would also be more than willing to debate the point with him without resorting to insults, as any respectable professional who disagrees surely should be.
