Can't stand criticism of the Holy Ruby?
If so at least say why you think it's lame...

If you are going to use the "lame" complaint, you should at least comment as to why. It's really not fair to the author to randomly mark his post as lame without giving him some useful feedback.

I think the post makes a good point and is reasonably insightful.. however..

"So now I realize the title of this post will probably cause a lot of stupid but otherwise harmless people to dismiss this as yet another over reaching and sensationalist attention seeking bloggers’ off-the-cuff remark, as they sit on their bloated arses drinking an evening snifter of port while calmly clicking next with those chubby little digits of theirs. OK, yep there they go off to browse other pages."

.. is just totally lame. It's the "if you disagree with me, you must be a moron" approach of debate.

I'm willing to overlook this in view of the greater point, however :)

Thanks bigbold, but honestly I'm a little surprised anyone
took my "So now I realize.." paragraph seriously.

I was winking the whole time :) .. but seriously or not
it does smell a little lame now that I read it again.

Hey, I think it's great you're responding on here :)

This whole topic is something I have been considering for a little while now (though not with much effort, I admit). I have been aching to find some time to check out Rubinius before giving it my 'official seal of approval' as some way forward. I'm hoping to dig into in the next day or two though.. if it's as good as people are making out, it should be very exciting.

I'll be linking to your post on Ruby Inside sometime in the next couple of days, I think.

Does prove your point though. Say anything negative about Ruby (even in jest) or its users and you get flamed by its adherents ;)

Well now I know /you're/ joking ;-) But the interesting point about Alex's piece isn't that it should incite Ruby adherents.. but rather Matz/YARV adherents ;-) Many Ruby developers, myself included, love the idea of independent, clean development of the runtime and hopefully what Alex says will cultivate that opinion in the community a little more. Of course, we have to be careful to avoid a "Perl 6"..

Thats was actually my original motivation for jokingly throwing that
paragraph in there, I knew there would be some people who would
disagreed right away without even reading the full article so I just
figured why not have some fun with them on the way out.
