Notice the word uncomfortable, which is different from other more objective descriptions like "Scala sucks," or "Scala is the next big thing."

I am intrigued by Scala but haven't had enough time to try it out yet. Certainly the Actors/concurrency is very interesting.

Weiqi provides an honest assessment of his experience that is more sophisticated than the usual "it rocks" versus "it sucks".

Why not just get the book? (which I can highly recommend)

I see some of the points, and used to think almost the same at one point when I just started with Scala, but isn't the author just saying that he hasn't had the persistence (or need/want/curiosity) to learn it properly?

There are plenty of things that are best solved with pattern matching. An example is replacing the visitor pattern with pattern matching. I think this can drastically reduce the complexity of some operations on hierarchies.

And I'm sorry, but summing it up as "uncomfortable" is only slightly more sophisticated than "rocks" or "sucks".
