Reuters is reporting this morning that during a closing keynote speech at IFA, a consumer electronics show held in Germany that Eric Schmidt said Google-powered tablets will run Chrome OS as opposed to Android.

Inaccurate title.
If you read the article, you'll see that Schmidt didn't say "tablets won't run Android". That would obviously be a false, since the first two Google powered tablets (Samsung Galaxy and Dell Streak) both run Android.
You do get the feeling Google wants tablets to run Chrome. But Schmidt makes it clear that Google is seeking input from hardware makers on this question.
It would be foolish for Google to have two different APIs and tool sets for creating smart phone and tablet apps. Doing so would slow the momentum Google has been building up. Apple provides a single API (iOS) for both the iPhone and iPad. Google should do the same to keep developers on board.

I agree with devdanke no need for 2 apis. There are alreaady a bunch of tablets with Android out there. Why is everyone forgetting to mention the Archos 7 HT ???
