Should we post our own articles on DZone? Is this frowned upon? If we have written an interesting article that we would like to share with the community, should we post it ourselves or wait for someone else to do it? Please don't comment on the blog, let's have this discussion on DZone. Vote the article up, not so people come to my blog (I really couldn't care less about that), but rather so people see the question, and post a comment.

I personally agree, but I have read on others posts that we should not link to our own blog.

I post my own links about twice a month or so. I think its fine as long as you don't spam dzone with a lot of links, especially if they aren't relevant.

That said, there are sites besides dzone where I won't submit my own links. I respect the communities that I am part of, but I haven't seen people here who have a problem with submitting your own links.

Submit links you like. If you like what you write and think others would like it, then heck yeah post it.
Let the votes decide what rises to the top.

As long as you're not disingenuous about the link (ex: http://www.dzone.com/links/look_what_you_can_do_with_ria.html) or trying to sell something (via blogspam or hyping your own product) I see nothing wrong with it.

I concur. Submitting your own links is OK. People can quickly tell if your encouraging discussion or posting blogspam and will vote accordingly. Some developer niches are small enough that they may not garner notice unless you post them here.

absolutely yes; as long as the blog article contains something other users may (in your unbiased opinion) find useful, why not share it with us?

I also agree. If you hadn't wrote the article and would like that someone else had pointed you to it, I don't see the reason not to link it yourself.

Absolutely. Anyone who gives you grief over it will be dragged behind the barn and put out of their misery.

I think it's absolutely fine. I've done it. Admittedly, I think it would be nice if folks put in the description a little disclosure that it's their own writing. Just seems polite.

IMO, it is fine to post (or vote) if you believe your post has value (be it serious or a spoof).

It is better to write stuff which is so good that other people post it, but if you like the post, go for it.

Yes. What embarasses me however, when posting something I wrote myself, is that I automatically get a vote up for it.

I feel a bit dumb: I've just discovered that I can void my vote up, by clicking on the vote up button.

Well, if you think it's post worthy it should at least be also worth your up vote. BTW 0 ups make it look like it was posted by accident.

@topic
I do post my own articles here, but only if they are relevant and only if they are good enough. Some research, good formatting, maybe some diagrams, clear structure, and at least 4 hours of work - that's my personal threshold.

Some (hopefully) new idea or some insight. That kind of thing. Or well, a justified rant sometimes. ;)

Is there any problem? I think vote just decides everything......no problem at all

I have recently started using DZone and I found the main purpose of the site very useful. The internet is a giant place now and you can't be found that easily if you want to share something with others.

I'm not really bothered about the voting system because I'm not sharing my articles for viewer's vote but then again the voting system can be useful if the reader of your article like to encourage others to read your article too. One of my Articles recently was voted down and the user also left a comment discouraging users to read my article. The comment served the opposite affect and the article was viewed far more than I expected.

In my opinion, this is really hard to plan and predict how people would react to something when is placed online because you are dealing with far wider opinions, styles, and preferences.

You won't be able to draw a definite conclusion base on the comments that are left in here because those who are commenting already believe in this system to see your post in the first place.

It's fine to submit links to your own stuff - as long as you're not spamming (as others have already said).

I also remember some comment and negative criticism on posting your own articles on dzone but that was a while back.
It was the opinion of a number of individuals and maybe they changed their minded or look at it in a different perspective.
I don't see any of that negative criticism popping up here as comment on this article. Not even a down vote on this article (yet?).

IMHO, if you find or write a good article and you want to share it with the world (of dzone and beuond) then post it here.
