Silverlight is encroaching on Windows Presentation Foundation’s turf, as the distinction between the two Microsoft technologies is eroding. This raises the question: Do Microsoft and its customers still need WFP?

Well, yes... but it's richer in the same way that a novel can be richer than a pamphlet.

I feel it should be pointed out that among other things, WPF has support for notifications. In addition, WPF supports the customization of Window Chrome. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE fan of Silverlight (I wrote Silverlight 2 in Action). But I also think there is some real value with WPF as well.
