Guess so. I mean there is basically no incentive to download it. There is no killer app so to speak. Also outside of developer communities no one ever heard of it.

If you look at search trends, Silverlight is in a upward trend, but XAML is flat. Draw your own conclusions.

I love the hypocrisy. Who gives a rip if it is automatic updates. If this were a post about the number of Firefox downloads, then everyone would be clammering to announce the demise of IE once again. Also, consider Flash when Flash was young, maybe version 3 or 4. Do you think John Doe User knew what that was then other than a pesky plugin to download? Developers were still pumping out just as many applets. As much as I think technologies like AIR and Silverlight are too hyped, 1.5 million a day is impressive.

Figures of automatic updates of Firefox are an indicator for the size of Firefox's user base. Silverlight downloads via Windows update are... well... an indicator for the size of Window's user base (with enabled auto update).

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. I myself have downloaded multiple versions of Firefox on several different computers at least a dozen times. I have read of many developers doing exactly the same in the name of unit testing.
