Distributed multiple resource transactions in Java are usually implemented using the Java Transaction API (JTA). A JTA implementation is regularly available in any fully fledged enterprise container, but what if we need JTA inside a servlet container like Tomcat? In this case we must provide the container with a 3rd party JTA implementation. In this tutorial we will see how to configure JTA using Spring and Atomikos in order to implement distributed transactions in Tomcat.
