Think of parallax as what you see when you look out of a moving train. Close objects move by quickly, distant object slowly. This is an example of how you can do that with CSS and the movement of your browser window.

Pretty cool effect, and very simple to implement!
The only downsides are (as usual) the failings of IE6, plus most users don't regularly resize their browsers while browsing -- so the effect is sort of an easter egg on the site.
I suppose you could implement something using the same principles with MooTools or suchlike to animate some transitions....
