At its JavaOne developer conference in San Francisco, Sun unveiled software for mobile phones that a number of writers heralded as a new competitor to Apple's iPhone. Should Apple be scared?

apart from (of course) the many places where it does and has sold...
The "debug everywhere" bit is a complete PITA though... Having a specification made up of component parts that phone providers can "cherry pick" from has ended up being a total nightmare...
