it's also a good way of tracking that a bug has been fixed since if any software like trac or bugzilla is used there is that nice correspondance there - in fact in trac since it shows the commits to the repository in the timeline it's a nice easy way to track the progress of a project whether via the roadmap, or from a list of tickets that represent bugs
