I recently had the opportunity of being told that I am writing unmaintainable code. I had the usual ego-bubble reaction: anger, indignation, pompous superiority etc.
The context of my incident at work was that I was using a particular technique. For the sake of this post it may have been any of: functional programming, inversion of control, object oriented programming or any other such technique. It doesn’t matter which. It was just something that the architect wasn’t familiar with himself. And I used it. In his code. After that, words and phrases like “willy-nilly” and “because you can” started floating around.
